  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/4 cup Melted butter or margarine
  • 3/4 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup Flaked coconut
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups Flour
  • 3 tablespoons Half and half or light cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup Chopped nuts
  • 1 cup Uncooked oatmeal
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1 1/4 cups Boiling water
Instructions

For cake

Pour boiling water over oats stir to combine, cover and let stand 20 minutes. Beat butter until creamy gradually add sugars beating until fluffy. Blend in vanilla and eggs, add to oats mixture and blend well. In separate bowl sift together flour, soda, salt & spices and add to creamed mixture, mix well.

Pour batter into a well greased and floured 9"x13" baking pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 55 minutes.For Topping

Combine all ingredients spread evenly over cake and broil until frosting becomes bubbly.
