Ingredients
- 1 pound cake, sponge cake or genoise baked in an 8-inch loaf pan
- About 1/2 gallon chocolate or coffee ice cream softened just enough so you can shape it
- 1/2 cup dry cherries or candied fruit, optional
- 4 egg whites, about 1/2 cup
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- Pinch salt
