Ingredients
- For the turkey burgers
- 1 pound ground turkey (I used a 90/10 mix)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes (optional or use less if you like)
- 2 teaspoons granulated garlic or garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons fennel seeds, crushed a bit
- 1 egg
- 1 cup unseasoned panko crumbs
- For the peperonata and putting it all together
- 3 bell peppers (red, yellow or orange or a combination)
- 1 medium onion
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 garlic cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 8 ounces tomato sauce
- 2 ounces ( 1/4 cup) water
- 1 tablespoon minced oregano leaves
- 3 tablespoons thinly sliced basil leaves
- The seasoned turkey mixture
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- 4 of your favorite burger buns
