Ukrainian Christmas Bread Kolach
Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup lukewarm water
- 1⁄3 cup sugar
- 1 cup milk, heated to lukewarm
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (1 stick) or 8 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon salt (1/2 teaspoon if using salted butter)
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 6 -7 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
- 1 egg, beaten, for egg wash
