- 1 1/2 pound stewing beef (such as beef, venison, moose, elk or bear, cubed)
- 2 tablespoons corn starch
- 2 tablespoons bacon drippings (maybe a bit more)
- 4 ounces small button mushrooms (quartered)
- 1 small yellow onion (finely chopped)
- 2 chopped plum tomatoes
- 1 cup chopped carrot
- 1 cup chopped turnip
- 1 cup red wine
- 2 cups beef stock (good quality beef stock)
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tablespoon dried parsley
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon celery salt
- 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/8 teaspoon ground pepper
