- 1 1/2 teaspoons chopped fresh sage
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 3 bay leaves
- 4 sprigs fresh thyme
- 1 pound dried kidney beans, soaked in water for at least 6 hours or overnight and drained
- Fresh lemon juice
