- 3 cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice
- 1 onion chopped
- 1/2 red bell pepper diced
- 2 serrano or other small, medium-hot peppers, de-seeded and minced
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 3 15-ounce cans pinto beans or mixed beans rinsed and drained
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1/2 tablespoon agave nectar or other sweetener
- 1/2 tablespoon molasses or other sweetener
- 3 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon Mexican oregano or 1 1/2 tsp. regular oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt or to taste
- 1 pinch cayenne or to taste
- fresh lime juice
